Welcome

Welcome to the website of the Greater Dandenong Edible Gardens Project.  The project is co-ordinated by Paul Fogarty and Kim Glasgow from the Permablitz network.  The project is sponsored by the Dandenong Development Board, and supported by the City of Greater Dandenong, Sustainability Victoria and the Department of Planning and Community Development.  This site has been set up to help people get together and have fun learning about, designing and implementing suburban permaculture systems.  Our focus is edible gardens, and our ultimate aim is to make the suburbs edible enough such that should food become unaffordable, we don’t even notice.

hpim1178.jpgOver 40 people showed up to an incredibly productive, informative and inspiring day.  We planted a tagasaste wind break, planted a banana, nectarine, lemon and apple tree and 2 currants, built 5+ grey water filtration pits, prepared two vege beds, added woodchip paths, and ran workshops on permaculture design and drought proofing gardens (see the gallery for more pics).  And that's only half the story...

Of the 40+ attendees over half were first time permablitzers, some first time gardeners, and everyone had a great deal to offer.  We began with introductions, before Cam explained the design and the action plan for the day.  It was only safe for about half of the team to be working at a time, so while Cam put half of the crew to work, Paul, Kat and Adam ran a permaculture workshop in the backyard.  After morning tea, the two teams swapped over.

Lunch was superb again - thankyou to Annie and to everyone who brought something along to share!  After lunch Cam ran a workshop in the backyard while Paul and half the crew prepared the front yard for the finishing touches.  At about 4pm we all came together to appreciate the amazing amount of work that we'd all contributed to!

A huge thankyou to all who came along - we certainly hope to see you all again in the near future! Paul and Cam
